The Aqua Dulce Internet Cafe at El Tigre offers the community and visitors alike the chance to connect with the rest of the world.
Expanding Horizons
Owned by Javier Mora and run by his daughter, Helen Mora, the Internet Cafe is a wonder in a town that only got phone service in 2004. The Cafe has desktop computers and a 3G wireless signal for those with internet phone service or their own laptops. The windows look out on the jungle ridges of El Tigre, and are often left open to allow the breeze to blow through. Local children and adults come to the cafe to learn about the internet, various computer software programs, chat with people in different parts of the world via Skype and take classes online.
Sharing Adventures
Visitors enjoy the opportunity to login in and chat in with friends and family, post Facebook updates and even blog about their adventures right from the jungle. Tocans sometimes fly right by the cafe windows - talk about something to write home about.
Tasty Meals
The Internet Cafe serves light fare and cool drinks. Food is served in the Mora's front patio, just a few steps from the computer center. Surrounded by flowers and pepper plants, the patio is covered and offers shade on sunny days and shelter from afternoon showers — afterall it is the rainforest!
A Few Words From Helen
"My name is Helen Gonzales Mora. I'm in charge of the Internet café. Thanks to South-South Cooperation and to Rios Tropicales I was able to achieve one of my dreams, to receive computer lessons — I travel to Cartago every Saturday from eight in the morning to midday.
Having the internet here at home, it really helps me in my computer studies, and it also helps me economically.
Before this there was no Internet here in my house, I had to go to Turrialba or Siquirres to use it, to get there I had to go to Santa Marta and then grab a bus that took an hour or so to arrive and I had to pay for it, and now I have it here in my house, super close, I love it.
It has also been very helpful for the people in town. They can communicate with their family, with friends from another country from right here. Also in the future they can receive online classes so they can learn more about handling a computer and the Internet.
What I teach to the children of town is how to use the computer, how to use the Internet."
