The El Tigre community is located right next door to a private, 2000 acre rainforest reserve. The reserve is managed by El Tigre community member Javier Mora, who also owns, with his family, the Agua Dulce Internet Cafe. The reserve is owned by Rios Tropicales and Javier has been managing the reserve since it's early beginnings in 1989.
International and national groups, tourists, and visitors participate in tree-planting projects and education programs year-round. Every week, visitors, tourists, and school or univeristy groups come to the Reserve to plant native rainforest tree species. Over 25,000 trees have been planted since the reserve began! Today, the reserve reduces 5,200 tons of carbon/year at 7.0 tons/acre, and makes Rios Tropicales a carbon neutral adventure tour company.
Visit the Rios Tropicales website page about Rainforest Restoration, for more detailed information about the reserve and how you can participate in a tree-planting event.
